Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) is one of the leading institutes of national importance for higher education in technology, basic, and applied sciences, founded in the year 1959, boasting a green campus of 645 acres rich in flora and fauna. The institute has several departments and advanced research centers in various disciplines of engineering and pure science, with nearly 100 laboratories organized on a unique pattern of functioning. The department of chemistry constitutes one such center for academic excellence.

Since its inception in 1959, the department has been engaged in imparting the highest quality of academic education, research training and is focused on addressing key scientific problems, which continues to gather worldwide appreciation and recognition. With more than 275 research publications in 2024, over 25 books so far, and our faculty members winning several national and international awards and recognitions, at present, we are one of the leading chemistry departments nationwide.

The department is actively involved in solving many industrial problems by way of consultancy and sponsored projects. In the last 5 years, the Department has bagged 63 projects to a tune of 43 crores.

The National Conference on Organic Chemistry (NCOC) - Academia Industry Interface serves as a platform to unite academic excellence with industrial innovation. The conference aims to -
