M. Sc. Project for May 2017-2018

Title of the Project: ”Organic transformations catalyzed by carbene stabilized low coordinate and low valence metal complexes”

Brief Write-up of the project:

Stable singlet carbenes will be synthesized, isolated and stored under highly inert atmosphere. They will be employed as ligands to form stable adducts of metal complexes which will be reduced to complexes having metal ion/atom in low coordination geometry. These complexes will have unsaturated coordination sites required for substrate binding and covalent bond activation making them suitable as catalysts for carrying out unusual organic transformations under mild and inert conditions. The progress of the catalytic organic transformations will be monitored by TLC and products will be purified by column chromatography. They will be characterized by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
