CHN-2400 (Perkin Elmer)

Perkin-Elmer 2400 Series CHNS/O Analyser

The analyzers technology is based on the classical organic analysis Pregl-Dumas technique and has been field-proven by extensive quality assurance testing. High speed microprocessor control, solid-state components and builtin diagnostics provide assurance of performance and reliability, as do the built-in automatic gas leak detection system and the automatic furnace on/off switch facility.

Multiple analysis options

The 2400 Series II offers multiple analysis options including Carbon (C), Hydrogen (H), Nitrogen (N), Sulfur (S) and Oxygen (O) (CHN or CHNS and O analysis). Changeover to different modes of operation just takes a few minutes with the optional Column Switching Accessory (CSA) which makes switching between columns used for analytical gas separations as easy as turning a dial. For example, a fully configured system would be capable of CHN, CHNS and Oxygen analysis. Alternatively, the user could start with the CHN option and simply add the CHNS and/or Oxygen analysis capability, as needed.  The 2400 Series II retains automatic weight entry from an AD-6 Ultra Microbalance. An industry-standard RS-232C port allows direct connection to a personal computer or LIMS system for data storage and analysis. The 2400 Series II offers flexible calibration procedure, internal storage of data and results, and the ability to recalculate any result all under user selected microprocessor control.

Productivity and precision
The 2400 Series II optimizes the analysis time for each analysis mode and minimizes maintenance time, changeover in analysis modes and downtime. Built-in microprocessor diagnostics continually monitor instrument conditions.
Analysis time in each mode of operation has been optimized for efficiency and precision. The analysis time is six minutes in CHN Mode, eight minutes in CHNS Mode and four minutes in Oxygen Mode. The unique steady-state measurement of all signals improves precision in all modes of operation. More organic elements in less time The 2400 Series II offers multiple analysis modes and fast analysis times.
Modern organic elemental analysis consists of a series of automated steps: combustion and reduction, homogenization of product gases, separation and detection. Combustion is the most critical step to the success of the process and ultimately affects the accuracy and precision of the final result: the weight
percent of the elements or the element to be measured. The 2400 Series II not only provides for advanced combustion conditions of temperature, time and available oxygen (or pyrolysis gas in the case of Oxygen Mode), but also enhanced combustion features under userdirected microprocessor control to further optimize the combustion step for the widest variety of samples. And, unlike conventional gas chromatography approaches which are constrained by pressure and flow rate changes that can affect the results, the 2400 Series IIs built-in solid-state pressure transducer ensures constant pressure unaffected by flow rate, barometric or altitude changes.

Specifications
Analysis Mode Options

1. CHN Mode: The CHN mode is the most universal of the analysis modes because of the combination of the reagent design and the Optimize Combustion control parameters. Interfering elements (halogens) are removed.
2. CHNS Mode: The CHNS mode is designed to handle conventional organics. This mode is specifically designed to include sulfur, which reduces the universality of the CHN capability. This includes the capability for limiting the range of sample types and sample size (1 to 2 mgs recommended). Metal cations are excluded. Special care must be used in calibration and blanks for lower levels of sulfur.
3. Oxygen Mode: The Oxygen mode excludes compounds containing phosphorous, fluorine, silicon, and metal cations. Samples containing mineral matter must be demineralized prior to analysis. Upgradeability The user may choose any or all modes. The 2400 Series II may be freely upgraded at any time to add additional mode capability to suit the needs of the laboratory.
